PermaNet 2.0

PermaNet® 2.0 is is the most purchased long-lasting insecticidal net in the world. It has been deployed in more than 200 countries on six continents by United Nations organizations, governments, non-government organizations, faith-based organizations, corporations and individuals.

PermaNet® 2.0 has been fully evaluated by the World Health Organization Pesticide Evaluation Scheme, and was given a full recommendation for use in malaria prevention in 2009, following the interim recommendation awarded in 2004.
  • Malaria is one of the deadliest diseases in the world.
  • Malaria is preventable and curable.
  • Insecticide-treated nets can reduce deaths in children by one fifth and episodes of malaria by half2.
  • PermaNet® 2.0 contributes to the fight against malaria as well as many of the neglected tropical diseases such as dengue, lymphatic filariasis (elephantiasis), leishmaniasis and Chagas disease.
  • Polyester netting is impregnated with deltamethrin in a wash-resistant binder system.
  • Mosquitoes are attracted by people sleeping under net and pick up insecticide when they land on net surface.
  • PermaNet 2.0 rapidly regains insecticidal efficacy after washing to ensure long-term protection without the need for re-impregnation.
PermaNet® 2.0 can be designed to fit any programme needs and comes in a wide variety of colours, shapes and sizes.

  • People tend to prefer polyester bed nets which have a softer texture than polyethylene.
  • In the Solomon Islands, an overwhelming lack of acceptability for polyethylene nets was expressed because the large mesh size was perceived to allow mosquitoes through and because the tendency to shorten and wrinkle with use made it difficult to keep the net securely tucked under sleeping mats.
  • Nets made entirely of coarser netting may be misused, such as for fishing or as a bathing sponge.
To prolong the useful life of a PermaNet® 2.0 long-lasting insecticidal net, the following are recommended:
  • Before first use, leave out for 24 hours.
  • Hang low enough to touch the ground or tuck under mattress.
  • Wash gently with soap and water. Do not wash with bleach.
  • After washing, hang to dry in the shade. Do not expose to direct sunlight.
  • Keep net away from naked flames.
  • Repair any holes as soon as possible.
